Chief Executive Officer Kevern Kerswell has announced that he will leave Agored Cymru at the end of August 2020.
Kevern joined the organisation in 2015 as Director of Quality, Standards and Regulation before becoming CEO in 2017. During this time, he has provided the growth, stability, strategic direction and leadership that has ensured Agored Cymru continues to meet the needs of all learners across Wales. His passion for raising standards and tackling disadvantage has created strong foundations that will serve the organisation well in the future and during his time as CEO Agored Cymru has moved into the top 5 awarding bodies for vocational qualifications awarded in Wales.
John Graystone, Chair of the Board commented:
Kevern has made a significant contribution to the development of Agored Cymru as a highly successful and innovative awarding body in Wales. I have had the pleasure of working closely with Kevern over a number of years as a senior manager and as chief executive. I wish him every success in his new role.
The Agored Cymru Board has appointed Darren Howells as Interim Chief Executive. Darren joined Agored Cymru in 2019 as Deputy CEO and has extensive experience within the awarding body sector. Darren will be supported by Joanne Creeden who will become the Interim Deputy Chief Executive and Responsible Officer. These interim roles will become effective on 1 September 2020. Further announcements regarding any permanent appointment will be made in due course.
Kevern Kerswell commented:
It has been an incredibly rewarding experience leading the Agored Cymru team. I am proud that we have increased our market share of qualifications in Wales and created significant growth across all our products and services. Agored Cymru continues to develop new and exciting qualifications that meet the specific requirements of a variety of sectors and is an asset to the education and training landscape in Wales. I am particularly grateful to the Board, the staff team and my colleagues on the Senior Management Team who have made my job a pleasure. Darren and Jo will use their considerable skills and experience to ensure that Agored Cymru Centres continue to enjoy unrivalled levels of customer support.
